Welcome to the Atari Games Challenge, a brAIn LAB study aimed at investigating difficulty and confusion in player experience. Through this page, you can read all the info about the experiment and book your participation.
In the study, participants will play a series of small computer games. EEG, gameplay and eye movements will be recorded during the play sessions. Demographics and player experience questions will be asked after each session.
The complete experiment session will take between 60 and 90 minutes depending on the participant’s playing speed.
Freedom to Participate
Participation in the experiment is voluntary and the participant has the right to withdraw at any time, without giving a reason or consequences. In addition, the participant has the right to ask any questions before/after the experiment.
Potential benefits and risks
The participants will play a few games during the experiment, and experience a psychophysiology experiment. Each participant will also receive a coupon valid for any drink sold at Analog Cafe as a token of appreciation for their help. Because of the content of some games, we cannot accept participants who suffer from any health conditions that affect their sensitivity to flashing lights, nor people who suffer from severe respiratory, cardiovascular or cerebrovascular diseases. Otherwise, there are no potential risks.
Confidentiality, Publication and Data Storage
The data will be stored safely and anonymously and be used for research purposes only. The signed consent forms will be stored separately to keep track of your approval. By participating in this experiment. You accept that research data gathered for the study may be published or made available provided my name or other identifying information is not used.
In case you want to withdraw from the study after the recording, within one month of the recording, you can write an email to brainlab-faculty@o365team.itu.dk and we will delete permanently all the data connected to your participation. After that, the data will be permanently anonymised; making it impossible to identify and delete any specific recording.
Organiser
The experiment is organised by the brAIn lab at the IT University of Copenhagen in connection with a number of MSc thesis projects under the supervision of Dr Paolo Burelli. There is no external public or private funding connected to the project.
Preparation
To guarantee optimal conditions for the data collection, we kindly ask the participants to avoid using conditioner or other hair products (you can wash your hair with shampoo) in the 24 hours before the experiment, and to avoid ingesting any caffeine in the 4 hours before the experiment.
